The Denbigh Workshop was formerly registered as a charity in 2016, as the result of two working mum’s discussing the lack of quality, inclusive and affordable theatre provision for the young people in our area. One of our main aims is to promote personal and community development through positive change and social inclusion. In 2016, we set up our inclusive youth theatre to provide an affordable creative activity for young people. We started with four children, we currently have 38 young people who attend regularly, 10 being young carers who are fully funded to attend for the year by CFIW.
We currently deliver an inclusive Saturday morning Youth Theatre, a Community Choir, and we deliver employability and confidence building workshops for Adult Learning in the Community for Wrexham Flintshire (ACL) and Communities for Work. We are on the TRAC and ADTRAC framework tackling barriers to learning with creative arts-led solutions with Arts Award.
Our theatre company provides creative Education & Outreach for three projects for Chester Zoo to primary schools throughout the North West and North Wales. In the summer 2019 we participated in Wildlife Connections festival with Harry, Bee and Rose and 2018 we were chosen to be part of the Wild Worlds Festival promoting and tackling plant blindness with our family-friendly theatre show Tree, Plant Bee & Me.
We are working with North Wales Police and PACT to deliver our hard-hitting workshop It Could Happen To You, to Senior schools throughout North Wales.
